Colitis’ Last Stand

Colitis Treatments

There are many medical (i.e., drug) approaches to keeping colitis symptoms under control. There are even more non-medical (i.e., possibly quacky) approaches. Time willing, I’ll add them here as I see them, or as you suggest them in the comments.

    • Wow, that sounds rough, Earl. Have you tried Prednisone? If not, diapers are probably your only bet for avoiding soiled pants during your travels. On my flights to and from Baltimore from California, I found that it wasn’t nearly as awful as I feared. Trust the diaper…it’s amazing how well they prevent leaks, even when you’re sitting down. Not that it’s pleasant to sit with your junk covered in shit for half an hour while you wait for the seatbelt sign to turn off, but it’s better than having diarrhea soaking through your pants into the seat!

Other potentially useful advice? You might be able to reduce the number of squirts/day by going on a diet of homemade soup for a week or two. (Recipes to check out include the Intro Chicken Soup here, Brasco Broth, which you can look up by doing a “Search Inside This Book” search on Amazon in the book, Restoring Your Digestive Health.) I don’t know that I’d recommend trying to implement a full treatment-style diet as you travel, unless of course you’re basically moving to another country for awhile; habit-setting while travelling can be tough! The other caveats about the soup: you’ll lose weight while eating only soup, which is dangerous if you’re already below normal as I was…and if you go for it, be prepared to face down some major cravings for chewable, salty, crunchy foods.
